Last month my friend Herbert Custodio tagged me along with my friend Austeen to the grand finale of MEGA Megazine's Young Designers Competition (YDC) 2012. Manila's fashionphiles flocked the NBC Tent decked in the most fabulous ensembles to celebrate Mega's monumental two decades in the fashion industry. Channeling my inner Brando I opted for a more scruffy laid-back rebel without a cause number.

Mega's annual competition has produced a crop of impressive world-class designers such as Randy Ortiz, Ivarluski Aseron, Veejay Floresca and Dubai-based Furne One to name a few. This year a new breed of talents vied for the elusive YDG Grand Prize title. In line with Mega's 20th anniversary, each finalist was challenged to create a collection for Mega envisioning fashion twenty years from now. The talented designers thoughtfully translated their vision to five cohesive looks. Renan Jay Pacson's futuristic BDSM collection took the grand prize home. Mara Chua, who also won Best in Show, was announced first runner-up while Robin Gundran was regarded the second runner-up.

More power to Mega Magazine for championing Filipino talent! Can't wait to see what's ahead for these young and talented Pinoy designers!
