A few weeks ago I finally got to experience katsu craze at Yabu with the entire Singson clan except for my older brother who was preoccupied that day. When we arrived at Yabu there was a queue already so we patiently waited. Then, a few minutes later, the attendant graciously ushered us to our table. Since it was our very first dining experience at this Japanese place the pleasant manager warmly welcomed us and explained everything from the condiments on the table to the pretty extensive menu. He even showed us how to make the yummy katsu sause. And then, one by one, the delectable entrees filled our bountiful table. The portions were quite generous unlike your typical servings here in the Philippines. I ordered tonkatsu (pork cutlet) and it was deep fried to perfection. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It wasn't greasy or anything. It tasted like the tonkatsu I had in Tokyo almost three years ago minus the hefty price tag. Like myself everyone was satisfied with what they had. We pretty much shamelessly cleaned our plates. We never ever waste food!
It seems like we will be frequenting SM Megamall more than usual thanks to our positive experience with Yabu. Next time I will definitely try their curry chicken katsu! Everyone knows I have a soft spot for anything spicy!
