I was devastated when I found out that Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester, one of my all-time favorite designers officially announced her departure from her revered eponymous label. One of the original Antwerp Six members, Ann Demeulemeester is known for her dark, romantic edge and soft silhouettes. I got a chance to see three of her shows in Paris during the Men's Fashion Week. Her last Men's SS14 show in Paris is close to my heart because I got an official invitation from her Atelier. And to make it even more dramatic, I was literally the last person to arrive at the massive Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy thanks to the shitty weather that day. But thankfully I made it. Because I would have regretted it if I missed that show considering it was one of her last collections.
Yesterday, I wore my Ann Dem wool knit cardigan to pay tribute to her inspiring work. I got this lovely sample piece in Antwerp, Ann Demeulemeester's hometown, at Labels Inc, a small consignment boutique specializing in Belgian labels. Next summer I absolutely need to take a trip back to Antwerp to hoard on Ann Demeulemeester stuff! Who knows I might even run into her since Antwerp is such a small city. The last time I was there I bumped into Walter Van Beirendonck at MoMu.
